Beech Manor
Beech Manor Nursing Home
At Inmind Healthcare, we take pride in providing holistic, person-centred services that support individuals on their journey towards mental health recovery. One of the ways we achieve this is through Beech Manor, a welcoming 24-hour residential step-down unit with nursing for males and females aged 18 and above.
Beech Manor offers comprehensive support for those with complex and ongoing mental health needs, providing a nurturing environment where each resident can continue working towards independence while receiving the professional care and guidance they require.
Beech Manor provides a homely environment that is nonetheless structured and equipped to accommodate complex mental health needs. By blending clinical oversight with the warmth of a residential setting, we facilitate recovery in a manner that respects each resident’s individuality. Our team wholeheartedly believes in promoting independence, personal growth and meaningful community engagement. From providing opportunities for voluntary work or college courses to coaching residents through daily tasks, everything we do is centred on instilling a sense of hope and self-belief.
We understand how important it is to feel supported, both emotionally and practically, in one’s home environment. Our staff strive to be approachable, empathetic and encouraging, ensuring that residents feel comfortable voicing their concerns or seeking help whenever necessary. Whether your objective is to gain the skills to live more independently, reduce the likelihood of relapse, or simply build confidence and social connections, Beech Manor is dedicated to guiding you along that path. We work diligently alongside other professionals and local community networks to ensure that each resident’s support is cohesive, consistent and geared towards genuine recovery.

Our Philosophy of Care
- Person-Centred Approach
At the heart of our service lies a deeply held belief in person-centred care. We recognise that every individual is unique, with their own lived experiences, challenges and strengths. Our staff are trained to work collaboratively with residents, listening to their perspectives, preferences and aspirations. By doing so, we ensure that care is delivered in a way that feels personal, supportive and respectful, taking each resident’s needs and hopes into account. This enables us to help individuals build upon their existing abilities and overcome barriers in a manner that promotes lasting growth and resilience.
- A Therapeutic Environment
Beech Manor was designed to provide a calm, therapeutic environment where residents can feel at ease as they focus on bettering their mental health. For many people, being in a homely environment is crucial to feeling secure and less stressed. As such, we strive to maintain a warm, inviting atmosphere throughout the property. We value open communication and mutual respect, cultivating a sense of community that encourages residents to engage in daily life, access resources, and learn skills that can help them adapt more confidently to independent living.
- Step-Down Support
The concept of a step-down unit is central to Beech Manor’s purpose. We aim to bridge the gap between inpatient mental health services and more independent living arrangements. Our mission is to create a seamless transition that reduces the likelihood of relapse and safeguards each resident’s wellbeing. We place great emphasis on equipping individuals with the practical skills, coping strategies and confidence they need to move forward. By offering 24-hour staffing and nursing support, we ensure that those in our care continue to receive the professional oversight they need, while also granting them ample freedom to develop their independence.

Location and Community Integration
- Residential Setting
Situated on a peaceful residential street, Beech Manor is the ideal place for residents to feel comfortable, supported and integrated within the local community. Being removed from the more clinical atmosphere of a hospital ward fosters a sense of normality and belonging. At the same time, our staff remain on hand to offer guidance and care whenever needed, facilitating a positive balance between independence and support. The local neighbourhood is pleasant, with warm, welcoming surroundings that contribute to an overall sense of well-being.
- Convenient Access to Amenities
We believe that easy access to shops, green spaces, and opportunities for education and employment is vital for mental health recovery. Beech Manor benefits from good bus and train services nearby, enabling residents to travel independently or with supervision, as appropriate. Local shops, only a short walk away, are ideal for quick errands and help foster greater self-sufficiency. In addition, Sutton and Wallington Town Centres are just a short journey from the property, offering more comprehensive retail and leisure facilities as well as reliable public transport links.
- Community Links
Wherever possible, we encourage residents to engage with local community activities. This could range from undertaking voluntary work or supervised work placements to attending college or training courses in the area. We have found that individuals who are supported to participate in meaningful, fulfilling activities often experience a significant boost to their self-esteem, motivation and sense of purpose. By connecting with the local community, residents can also build new friendships, socialise more confidently and reduce feelings of isolation.
Specialist Support
- Psychological and Occupational Therapy
Beech Manor offers access to psychological and occupational therapy on an individual basis, depending on each resident’s needs and preferences. For some people, targeted psychological interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, counselling, or solution-focused therapy may be beneficial in helping to process emotional difficulties or learn more effective coping strategies. For others, occupational therapy can be crucial in redeveloping day-to-day skills and practical competencies, from cooking and budgeting to managing personal routines. We collaborate with each person, tailoring sessions to suit individual circumstances and enabling a genuinely person-centred approach.
- Recovery-Focused Pathways
We take great care to work alongside residents, their Care Co-ordinators and the wider multi-disciplinary team to formulate bespoke recovery pathways that reflect individual goals. From the very start of someone’s stay at Beech Manor, we involve them in decision-making processes, encouraging self-advocacy and empowerment wherever possible. Together, we review these pathways regularly, ensuring that they remain relevant and responsive to any changes in circumstances. By focusing on relapse prevention and resilience-building, we hope to minimise the likelihood of setbacks and maximise each person’s overall quality of life.
- Contingency Crisis Management
A key part of our approach is identifying potential crises early and having robust contingency plans in place. Mental health recovery is seldom straightforward, and we recognise that everyone’s journey can include periods of increased vulnerability. Early intervention and clear communication channels with professionals, family members (if appropriate), and other support networks are essential. By staying vigilant and acting swiftly, we can help residents navigate challenging periods effectively, reducing distress and risk to themselves or others.
Collaborative Working
1. Local Healthcare Services
Our partnership with the local Recovery Team at Jubilee Medical Centre in Wallington ensures that residents continue to receive professional mental health support and Care Programme Approach (CPA) management. Meanwhile, the local GP provides oversight for residents’ physical healthcare, ensuring that any emerging health needs are addressed promptly and effectively. By working closely with these external providers, we can maintain continuity of care and ensure that any transitions between services run smoothly.
2. Managing Community Treatment Orders
For individuals no longer requiring detention under Sections 3 or 37 of the Mental Health Act but still needing structured support, Beech Manor provides an invaluable option. Our team can manage Community Treatment Orders (CTOs), giving residents the stability and consistency necessary to move forward. This helps streamline the care pathway for both the individual and any funding bodies, as it allows for a more integrated form of support. By promoting independence within a safe framework, individuals can maintain momentum in their recovery, reducing the risk of hospital re-admission.
3. Multi-Disciplinary Teamwork
Collaborative practice lies at the heart of everything we do at Beech Manor. Our staff work closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, commissioners and families (where appropriate) to keep everyone involved in the support process. Sharing information swiftly and clearly helps foster consistent, proactive care that makes a tangible difference in residents’ lives. It also means that any adjustments to medication, therapy approaches or living arrangements can be implemented without unnecessary delays.

Our Facilities
- Comfortable Bedrooms
Beech Manor accommodates up to 8 adults in a homely, well-appointed setting. Each bedroom comes with an en-suite facility, allowing for greater privacy and dignity. These personal spaces can be furnished and personalised to reflect each individual’s tastes and interests, encouraging that all-important sense of ownership and belonging. Our aim is to create a true home from home, minimising institutional feel and helping residents settle into a stable routine. - Shared Spaces
Residents benefit from access to a comfortable lounge, a dining room with direct garden access, and a fully equipped kitchen. By sharing communal areas, individuals can develop social skills, build relationships and enjoy a sense of normal everyday life. At the same time, these spaces allow residents to learn or practise essential daily living skills. Whether preparing a meal or tidying up after a communal activity, residents have plenty of opportunities to gain confidence and foster independence in a supportive context. - Clinical Facilities
Whilst Beech Manor is very much a residential environment, we also maintain a clinical room that ensures medical care and assessments can take place on-site when needed. This arrangement makes it straightforward for nurses, GPs or other healthcare professionals to attend to minor physical health needs or conduct routine check-ups. In addition, we have large bathrooms with wet-room facilities, guaranteeing that residents’ varying mobility requirements are met. Our laundry facilities, meeting room and office space further enhance the practical day-to-day running of the service. - Outdoor Space
We place a great deal of importance on the value of fresh air, natural light and opportunities for gentle outdoor activities. Beech Manor’s spacious back garden is a fantastic resource, giving residents a chance to socialise in a safe and pleasant setting. There is a designated smoking area for those who require it, while the remainder of the garden can be used for sitting quietly, gardening, or simply enjoying the weather. Access to outdoor spaces can play a significant role in mental health recovery, helping to promote relaxation and reduce stress. - Parking
On-site parking makes it simpler for commissioners, family members and visitors to come and go, facilitating regular contact with loved ones. Maintaining these positive connections can be vital to a resident’s emotional wellbeing. The convenience of on-site parking also makes it easier to arrange appointments, attend community events, and engage in leisure activities beyond the service.
Admission Criteria and Process
- Resident Profile
Beech Manor supports men and women aged 18 years and above, all of whom have a primary diagnosis of mental illness and require ongoing support. This includes individuals who may have experienced multiple hospital admissions, or those who have had difficulty managing their mental health in more independent settings. By providing structured nursing support around the clock, we strive to offer each resident the encouragement and practical assistance necessary to enhance their quality of life. - Pre-Admission Assessment
Before admission, our Registered Manager or another suitably qualified member of staff will carry out a detailed assessment. This involves reviewing existing care and risk plans, as well as consulting with the prospective resident and their current care team. During this process, we determine whether Beech Manor is a suitable environment, given the individual’s needs, preferences and objectives. We remain transparent and forthcoming, ensuring that both the potential resident and their support network are fully aware of the scope of services and facilities we offer. - Providing Information
Once a prospective resident’s place and funding have been agreed, they receive a pack containing vital information, including the Resident Guide and Resident Agreement. We also draft a preliminary Care Plan and Risk Assessment based on the documents and discussions that took place during the assessment phase. During the first few weeks of someone’s stay, we review and refine these documents, making sure that every aspect of the care provided is truly tailored to that person’s current needs. - Trial Visits
Where possible, we encourage prospective residents, their families, friends and commissioning bodies to visit Beech Manor in person before admission. This provides an invaluable opportunity to experience the atmosphere, meet staff, explore the facilities, and speak to current residents if appropriate. For those who wish to, a short trial stay can be arranged so they can gauge how comfortable they feel in the environment. We believe that empowering individuals to make informed choices fosters trust, confidence and greater engagement in the recovery journey. - Ongoing Reviews
Within approximately 12 weeks of admission, a placement review is held with the resident and their care team. Together, we revisit their Recovery Care Plan and risk management plan to see whether any changes might be beneficial. By involving the resident as much as possible, we ensure that they remain informed and invested in every aspect of their care. These reviews then continue at regular intervals, helping to maintain a proactive, forward-thinking ethos that prioritises each individual’s well-being.
